Are you wondering what the cost of living is in Louisville? This is Jacob of Louisville Cash Real Estate, and we buy Kentuckiana homes. If you’re looking to sell a house in Louisville or the Indiana side of the river, please contact us.

And in this video, we’re going to go over the average cost of living for homes, and then also other goods, such as transportation and other things like that, groceries as well, compared to other cities.

So, they have a index scale that goes to a hundred. 100 is the national average. Anything above that is over, anything below that is under the national average. So Louisville is 93.9, so we are six points below what the national average is as far as cost. Now what that means is is that we are a lot cheaper to live in Louisville than other major metropolitan cities, which is a good thing.

Some of the things that we do fall under in the category for, our housing. Our housing is typically cheaper, and so are our groceries, and then just common goods like that. Things that are more expensive is utilities and transportation, which is crazy, because we have Ford here. So you would think that our transportation would be lower than the national average, but it’s actually higher by 12 points.

And then, utilities, that is higher by eight points, which does not surprise me with the way that LG&E, and the Louisville Water Company, and MSD charge you for things and how they operate. So that does not surprise me at all in that category.

If you’re wondering about the median housing price or value, that, over the last year, was $240,000. $242,000, according to Redfin. Redfin or Realtor, one of the two. We’ll have the link in the blog article that we’ll have. And 242,000 was the average over the last year for all the houses sold, the median sold price for those houses.

So that is some just, on those houses. So there’s some statistics on the average cost of living in Louisville, as far as where we are in the national average. And then as far as the typical housing price in Louisville, you can get houses cheaper. There’s also more expensive houses, but it’s a great market to get a starter home in, for a good price that you could possibly get for less than what you would rent a property out for.

So make sure that you’re taking advantage of this so that you can get a starter home in Louisville before housing prices continue to incline, like they continually are in most major metropolitan cities due to inflation.
